Greeting the 1940's was a new “top-dog” in the Chevrolet line-up with the introduction of the Special Deluxe series. With a bit more chrome and interior amenities than the Master Deluxe, this new line was popular with the car buying public. With six models offered in the Special Deluxe line, the most popular model by far was the 2-door Town Sedan with 205,910 units produced and a base selling price of $761.00. Promoted in the day as being “unusually spacious and richly appointed”, the interior of the Town Sedan was comfortable with easy access to the back seat with fold-down seat back, and a large trunk with concealed tool box mounted in the floor allowing for a maximum of luggage space.

The example were are happy to offer is finished in the popular shade of Harbor Blue, an early metallic sheen, while the interior appears to be wearing its original gray fabric for both front and rear seats. There are a number of accessories included with this Town Sedan including push-button radio, factory heater-defroster and glove-box door mounted clock. It is also fitted with dual outside rear-view mirrors, and original bumper mounted grille guard and a pair of GM amber fog lights. One of the features of the Special Deluxe was the dual pinstripes added to the wheels, which this car exhibits. Several after-market items have been installed including a 1940's version of air-conditioning with a period dash-mounted fan, plus for safety's sake, seat belts for the front seat driver and passengers. Under the hood sits the original stove-bolt six engine, which comes to life with the push of the ignition button and easily shifts into gear.

Our Special Deluxe Town Sedan appears to be a fairly original car treated to an older repaint in its original color. Looking inside the interior materials look to be mostly original, with the driver's seat exhibits proper wear and tear for a car showing just under 71,000 miles on the odometer. In the luggage compartment there is ample room for several suitcases or a simple overnight bag and picnic basket. During WWII many of these pre-war cars were driven into the ground. The very fact that this car has survived for over 75 years and looks as good as it does, is a testament to the workmanship and materials used when this Chevrolet was new.
